amsterdam

march 2024

I was amazed at how modern Amsterdam was. For some reason, I was imagining a very fairy-like Dutch city but instead I got a contemporary European city that rivaled the best city infrastructures of Asia (cough Japan).

First off, their red light district is actually undefeated. It was the most regulated, well protected red light district while retaining the vulgarity and metaphorical dirtyness that you would expect from one. Sex workers advertised behind glass panes, brothels convincing drunk men to come inside, phallic shaped desserts, everything. It felt so safe, I would be comfortable with Jolie going by herself in the dead of night. (okay maybe not but you get the idea)

We spent a day or two here before heading to Keukenhof for their tulip festival, a massive array of flowers in what felt like the middle of nowhere. It the beginning of the season so not everything was blossoming but it still made for a wonderful sight. There was also a super cool band with a memorable performance.
